The position

We are looking for a (Senior) Data Scientist to join our Central Data Science team in Vienna. In this role, you will apply your machine learning expertise within the SMART Process Design team, developing digital tools to optimize biopharmaceutical processes. Your work will help accelerate the production of life-saving medicines for humans and animals.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Integrate and adapt mechanistic and data-driven models to meet SMART PD platform requirements.
  • Develop and enhance SMART PD features in collaboration with product teams and bioprocess experts.
  • Train and deploy models to simulate and optimize bioprocess outcomes, such as titer or purity.
  • Work closely with domain experts to translate their knowledge into actionable insights for modeling and development.
  • Support strategic planning and stakeholder engagement to ensure impactful model integration and product evolution.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Data Science, Computer Science or a related field; a PhD is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in Python, machine learning libraries (e.g. scikit-learn) and cloud platforms (e.g. Databricks, AWS).
  • Strong knowledge of modern ML techniques and experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Proven ability to work in Scrum teams, manage projects and communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Domain knowledge in pharma or life sciences is desirable; fluent English is required, German is optional.

The minimum gross annual salary for this position is € 59.400 per year (full-time) according to the classification in the collective bargaining agreement for the chemical industry. Depending on professional experience and qualifications, we offer an overpayment.
